With over two decades of experience as a Counseling Psychologist, Dr. Rup Kalyan has been dedicated to helping individuals across Kolkata and other states India since 2001. He holds a B Sc in Bio Science , M Sc in Applied Psychology, a DHMS from Kharagpur Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychiatric Social Work from Jadavpur University, . The Seeds of Compassion: Early Experiences
Dr. Rup Kalyan's professional journey began with a profound understanding of the social determinants of mental health. As a Psychiatric Social Worker at ANTARA, he witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by individuals struggling with severe mental illness within a community context in India. This experience instilled in him the importance of holistic care, addressing not just the clinical symptoms but also the social and environmental factors impacting well-being.
Further honing his skills in a challenging clinical environment, Dr. Rup Kalyan served as a PSW-Counsellor and trainer for rehabilitation and reintegration of chronic mental ill person was admitted in state run government hospital at Kolkata Pavlov Hospital & Lumbini Park Mental Hospital, Kolkata, West Bengal. This experience provided him with invaluable insights into the complexities of acute mental health conditions and the critical role of multidisciplinary teamwork in patient care.
Expanding his reach to rural communities, Dr. Rup took on the role of Project Associate at Berhampur Mental Hospital, Murshidabad. This experience highlighted the disparities in access to mental health services and fueled his passion for bringing quality care to underserved populations.
Empowering Individuals: Development and Training
Dr. Rup Kalyan's expertise extended beyond clinical practice to include empowering individuals with vital life skills. As a Psychologist cum Life Skills Trainer for marginalized children and street children at Development Research Communication & Services Centre (DRCSC), he designed and facilitated workshops aimed at building resilience, enhancing communication, and promoting personal growth of the community teacher and state run school teacher. As a mental health trainer for capacity building for the community based social worker.
His expertise skills also appreciated as a trainer cum resource person for the training programme for the student of Chemical Technology department at Rajabazar Science College, University of Calcutta supported by University Grant Commission, India.
Dr Rup Kalyan is a student counsellor cum resource person of student of Pharmacy, BCDA College of pharmacy under Moulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal.
His commitment to supporting vulnerable populations continued with his role as a Psychologist in OPD and In- patient at Rista Foundation, Kolkata where he provided counseling and therapeutic interventions to individuals navigating challenging life circumstances.
Dr. Kalyan's expertise in clinical psychology was further demonstrated at Rainbow Hospital & Diagnostic Service, where he provided comprehensive psychological counselling and therapeutic interventions.
Building Bridges: Community and Academia
Driven by a vision of accessible and holistic healthcare, Dr. Rup Kalyan founded Health Village, a platform dedicated to promoting mental and physical well-being within the community. This initiative reflects his dedication to creating spaces where individuals can access support and resources to thrive.
Sharing his knowledge and expertise with future healthcare professionals, Dr. Rup Kalyan served as a Guest Lecturer at the Department of Applied Psychology, Government College of Nursing under West Bengal Health University . This role allowed him to contribute to the development of a new generation of compassionate and skilled practitioners.
His expertise was further recognized by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhay Government Medical College and Hospital, where he served as a Consulting Psychologist / Counsellor, providing specialized psychological support to patients and their families.
Dr. Rup Kalyan's commitment to evidence-based practice is evident in his role as a Psychological Counsellor at Prashanti Clinic, Kolkata, where he utilizes proven therapeutic approaches to support individuals experiencing common mental health challenges.
